Gift cards
Buying DoorDash credit below face value is a genuine saving strategy, and it is the only one that works at merchants which never run promotions. A gift card bought at 10% off is a 10% discount on everything you subsequently spend, with no minimum, no cap and no expiry.
It also stacks. Gift card balance is treated as a payment method rather than a promotion, so an order can use gift card credit and a promo code at the same time.
The risk is entirely in where you buy. Legitimate discounts come from retailers running gift card promotions, from DoorDash's own bonus-credit offers, and from employer or membership programmes. Peer-to-peer resale marketplaces are where the fraud is.

These are the most reliable discounts — a percentage off, or bonus loyalty points that amount to the same thing.
Gift Card Plus and similar promotions add credit on top of a purchase, which is a discount expressed differently.
Gift cards bought at supermarkets frequently earn elevated rewards, stacking on top of any discount.
Cards bought with stolen payment methods get voided after you have loaded them. There is no recovery route.
Redeem in Account → Gift Cards. The balance shows in the wallet and applies automatically to future orders.
Background
There are four legitimate sources. Retail promotions — supermarkets and warehouse clubs periodically discount third-party gift cards or offer bonus points on them. DoorDash's own bonus offers, including Gift Card Plus, which adds credit on top of the purchase. Membership programmes at warehouse clubs and some employers. And credit card category bonuses, where buying a gift card at a supermarket earns elevated rewards.
Realistic discounts are 5% to 12%. Anything advertised well beyond that should be treated with suspicion, because the margin on gift cards is thin and a 30% discount implies the seller is not paying face value for the card.
The fraud pattern on resale marketplaces is consistent: a card is bought with a stolen payment method, sold to you at a discount, and then voided by the issuer when the original transaction is charged back. You lose the balance and there is no recourse, because you were not the original purchaser.
Gift card balance does not expire in most jurisdictions, which makes it fundamentally different from promotional credit. It sits in your wallet indefinitely.
One practical caution: gift card balance is applied automatically once loaded, so if you are trying to hit a promo code's minimum subtotal, note that the minimum is tested against the subtotal before payment — the gift card does not reduce your qualifying subtotal.

The reliable sources are supermarket and warehouse club gift card promotions, DoorDash's own bonus-credit offers, and membership or employer programmes. Realistic discounts run 5% to 12%.
They carry real risk. Cards purchased with stolen payment methods are voided when the original transaction is charged back, and the buyer loses the balance with no recourse. Discounts far beyond 12% are a warning sign.
Yes. Gift card balance is a payment method rather than a promotion, so it reduces the amount charged after a promo code has discounted the subtotal.
Balances generally do not expire, unlike promotional credit. Once loaded they remain on the account indefinitely.
