How-to
Applying a DoorDash promo code is four taps, but the order in which you do things determines whether it works. DoorDash evaluates a code against the cart as it exists at the moment you apply it, so a code applied to a half-built cart is tested against a subtotal you have not finished building.
This guide walks through the sequence that avoids the common failures, then explains how to confirm the discount actually landed — which is not the same as the code being accepted.

Targeted offers assigned to your account are usually better than any code you might type, and they do not occupy the promo field. If one is available, use it and skip the code entirely.
Account-level offers are invisible to everyone else, which is exactly why they are better.
Add everything before you touch the promo field. The minimum subtotal is tested against the cart at the moment the code is applied, not at checkout.
Aim two to three dollars above the stated minimum so a substitution does not drop you below it.
On mobile it is under the payment section, labelled 'Add promo code'. On desktop it is in the order summary panel on the right.
If the field is missing, an auto-applied offer already occupies the slot.
Codes are not case-sensitive. A space copied from an email is the most common cause of a false 'invalid' error.
The order summary should show a line naming the promotion with a value against it. This is the only reliable confirmation.
A code accepted with no discount line has applied at zero value.
New-customer eligibility is re-verified when the order is placed. If the discount is removed here, the account failed the eligibility match.
Background
The promotions field sits in the checkout screen, below the payment section on mobile and in the right-hand order summary on desktop. It accepts one code per order. Codes are not case-sensitive, but a trailing space pasted from an email will cause a rejection that looks identical to an invalid code.
When you apply a code, DoorDash runs three checks in sequence: does this code exist and is it live; is this account eligible for it; and does the current cart satisfy its conditions. Failing the first returns "invalid", the second "not eligible", and the third a message naming the unmet condition — usually the minimum subtotal.
If all three pass, a named discount line appears in the order summary. That line is the confirmation. A code that is accepted without producing a discount line has applied at zero value, which happens when the qualifying item is out of stock or was added from the wrong menu section.
One further check runs at order placement rather than at code entry: the eligibility re-check. For new-customer offers in particular, this is where DoorDash matches your device, address, phone and payment method against prior accounts. A code removed at the payment step failed here, not at entry.
Finally, note what the discount applies to. The subtotal, and only the subtotal. Delivery fees, service fees, taxes, small-order fees and tips are all outside it. This is the source of most disappointment with percentage codes on small orders.
All the DoorDash discounts we verify are collected on the main page, newest first.
Compare this against the wider set of DoorDash deals before you check out.
Questions
The questions people actually ask, answered with the mechanism rather than a guess.
Still stuck? The troubleshooting guide is organised by the exact error DoorDash shows you.
At checkout. On mobile it is under the payment section, labelled 'Add promo code'; on desktop it is in the right-hand order summary. If you cannot find it, an auto-applied offer is likely already occupying the slot.
No. Promotions are evaluated at checkout and cannot be applied retroactively. Support cannot add one to a completed order, though they may occasionally issue goodwill credit.
The discount applied at zero value. This usually means the qualifying item is out of stock at your store, or was added from the standard menu rather than the promotional banner.
Before. The discount reduces the food subtotal, and fees and taxes are calculated afterwards. Because the service fee is a percentage of the subtotal, a discount also slightly reduces it — the only indirect effect a code has on fees.
No. DoorDash allows one order-level promo code per order. You can combine it with a merchant storefront offer, DashPass benefits and account credit, because those are evaluated separately.
